( probably. what else had pushed xiao to such lengths? argalia, ayin, even...? )
...Why is it considered a reward and natural conclusion in your stories? I'd like to hear one, by the way. I'm collecting them.
no subject
Because it is a force of just and good, and so it is... natural, that a hero would be rewarded it. Perhaps.
[ she guesses. don didn't really think too hard about it. ]
Ahem! There lies many a tale of Fixers and their quests to right the wrongs faced by the people they protect in our fair City, though they are oft spoken to the younger ken and laughed about by the old -- I think it a shame, truly. Let's see... which should I tell...
[ staring hard into the dark... mm. ]
There once was a young lady born low, who sought to change the circumstances of her birth by what means she could manage -- means that would not mire her in the same way it had others, arrested by villains and shackled by those who would envy her spirit, eager to drag her back down. The maiden waited with waning patience for the day she could grasp the first rung out of her hole, surviving day by day; her efforts were at last rewarded with the same occupation as I, and it was soon after that she caught the eye of an Office all the same.
It was not an Office of high renown, but it was something. It was through various jobs issued forth that the young woman came to know another who, it felt, was ever at the end of bad luck -- the lass was always in need of some hand or another, be it to save her own hide or someone else, and our young heroine was often sent out to settle them due to the vicinity of the requests. Such deeds brought her fame and affection, but she paid them no mind; what the young lady liked to see, instead, was the steady decline of poverty and crime, and the incline of faces that were not so dreary.
[ of a world truly bettered by one's actions; oh, it is certainly a work of fiction, isn't it. ]
Is it not natural? That the young lass who sought her help so often would fall for the woman who so often extended protection over her? That our heroine, thinking aught all of anything save the good she could do, should find a home in the brightened world she helped to create? Oh, the tale speaks few words of their engagement and the affairs that helped to push both towards any manner of courtship -- offering and accepting -- but I have ideas aplenty for how it must have gone!
[ ...
but she doesn't think often of romance!!!!!!! ]
Their fates are left open at the end, but the two women had become close as can be as they had met time and time again -- it is not hard to imagine what would have come after. Nonetheless, the tale itself ends with our young Fixer continuing to protect that which she held dear, forever immortalized in literary form. Is that not wonderful?

( but maybe this too is different... still, angela has, in the course of don quixote's story, taken out a small notebook and a pencil--the story she's penned isn't a one-to-one copy of the other's words, but it's exact enough that once she returns to the safety of her room she'll be able to reconstruct it to some degree. )
...Regardless, it is a nice story. Extremely fictitious, and obscenely fairy-tale-like, but nice.
no subject
[ every story is, in a way, a wish. nonetheless, don seems pleased to have told it. ]
Also, it is evident in the way the young lass sought trouble that she had an affection for the Fixer previous to the many messes she found herself in! Wherefore, I would think she were seeking our heroine out by name each time she issued a request to the Office! Charming, is it not?!
no subject
It's something. ( charming......... she supposes she has much to learn, still. maybe she'll ask the fixers she knows if they would find it charming.
anyway. she puts the notebook away again, looking at the tunnel of love..... ) Are you going to go in when it opens?
no subject
Naturally! I wish to see what wonders lie inside, though I shall have to do so undercover -- as I am certain thee saw, [ she knows who verg talked to at least, ] my boss was rather unimpressed with my chosen pastimes!
[ as he often is, from her tone. though she doesn't seem to mind much. don quixote will do as don quixote wants. ]
It will be very exciting.
no subject
I also think most of my employees' chosen pastimes are unimpressive, but as long as they don't get in the way of their work, they can do as they please. ( netzach can paint after he sorts books; binah can make tea whenever she likes; chesed the same; hod and her book club; so on, so forth. ) Besides, it isn't like he didn't get anything out of attending your party.
( ...no, inarguably, he probably got more than he should have. angela's expression is cross for a moment, then she shakes her head. )
As long as you go with someone who seems responsible and has an idea of what they're doing, he might be more lenient. ( to that endddddddddddd: ) I'll go with you once it's open.
( she's literally nothing like anyone in don's fixertion so she's reasonably sure she is safe from love in this case. )
no subject
Thou wilt? [ genuine surprise... she has two people to go with now, since one doesn't get a choice.
though she might sidestep that one depending how she feels day of. ] Hmhm, that should certainly keep Sir Vergilius from berating me too much... Though he may still, so I shall say that it is an investigation rather than anything else.
[ yes... yes... deception. ]
no subject
( hmmmm......................? )
no subject
[ look! it's not a lie!
(deception......) ]
no subject
Then let's appear as if we're not having too much fun, or it'll make your investigation's true reason apparent.
no subject
[ wow ]
no subject
I can have fun.
no subject
Can thee even smile?
no subject
( ask roland... she smiled with him recently... )
no subject
And I do not give thee reason to.
[ terribly sad. ]
Very well! Then I shall make that the goal of our date -- that I will succeed in making thee smile, Angela. For now, shall we mark our path? There is much to see, and we should strive to see all of it!
no subject
( hello? )
no subject
[ what's the issue. ]
We are getting to know one another, and to enjoy each other's company, are we not? That is a date. It need not go further than that, and I shan't even ask to kiss thee.
[ miss don quixote goes on one date and suddenly she's an expert ]
no subject
( miss angela has never gone on a date in her life but has memories of being out on things that could be thought of as dates that aren't even hers, and that makes her an expert. )
no subject
Hmhm, thou'rt quite knowledgeable... Do thee fancy anyone?
no subject
( sigh...... )
And please do not take my vehement denial as overcompensation. Like I said, I've seen what love does to people, and I'm not interested in it. ( she doesn't... even know what she would do, if she felt like that. bury it? that seems safest. ) Do you?
no subject
I do not linger on such thoughts. My heart beats for justice, though I am of course fond of my friends.
no subject
Right. Despite your avid love of romance. ( ok girlie ) Regardless--yes, we can mark targets for our outing.
no subject
Let us be off then! Besides this tunnel, I find myself rather interested in the carousal...
[ the merry-go-round... off they go. ]
And the various stands which nothing to them! I rather hope there's prizes to be won, for I do enjoy a good competition!
no subject
I've heard that the games are often rigged against the players, but seeing as there's no people here, I wonder if that's still going to be true.
