(OPEN) probably the least secret secret meeting, all things considered
WHO: Setsuna F. Seiei (
elswhisperer) & you!
WHAT: The code word log!
WHERE: City Hall Park
WHEN: July 12
WARNINGS: N/A
[ Over the course of the past few days, you may have noticed simple, nondescript flyers posted here and there across the city. All handwritten, they list a location (a particular statue in the City Park) along with a time and date (3:00 PM, July 12). Below that, an extremely brief message:
For establishing safe communications.
- moment.
On the day of, you'll find a young man in a red scarf waiting by the named statue. He has with him sheets of blank paper, pens, and pencils. ]
My name is Setsuna F. Seiei. 'Moment' from the network. The purpose of this meeting is creating a way to safely disseminate information to each other all at once. If one of us found an exit, or determined the identity of our captors, we'd be jeopardizing ourselves by revealing it openly over the network. At the same time, the network is our most efficient method of communication. We need to make the most of all the tools at our disposal.
We can accomplish that with the use of code language. One that's not complicated; that anyone could remember and pass along. What that code is and what we want to communicate with it is something one person can't determine for themselves. That's why I wanted us all to meet.
Without cooperation, we're not gonna get anywhere.
[ ooc: just a couple things! go ahead and mingle/threadhop as you like (especially bc i may not be the fastest tagger rn), and if setsuna has already mentioned to your character that he's been working on something, feel free to assume he left some kind of vague message about checking flyers over the inboxes or smth. ]

✨kiosk info documenting✨
Of course, this is a statue at the park they're meeting at, so he figures he can bring it to... the base of the statue? That'll do. He clears his throat, holding up the papers and a pen.]
Uh, hey, everyone... We started making a list of things we've asked the kiosk in the tourist center and what answers it spit out. Maybe if we all combine questions and answers, something like a clue will come up? It's good to have a list, anyway. We can make sure it doesn't give different people different answers to the same question...
So... yeah. That's that. I'll leave it here. And... if you want to talk about some info, I'll hang out here, too?
[womp........ He will indeed hang out here for a bit, but talking to him isn't required to add to the sheet...]
[ooc: hello......
no subject
anyway. ]
It is not a helpful device whatsoever. Rarely anything I asked could be answered "at that time", so I am surprised to learn that thou hath gained knowledge from them.
[ ... well when. she writes her questions maybe they'll understand why she got shit all, but still. ]
no subject
I kind of only asked it about the pancakes... [as he leans over to see what she's asked it-- oh. don, bestie...] Uh...
Well, maybe if it can't answer them "at this time," they'll answer them later? Or it could be total bullshit, but there's no harm in asking again.
no subject
Hmhm, that is true. I have yet to ask any in regards to the new district which has opened before us, but perhaps I shall! I wish to know when the mall will be finished, and what use a bank has for a place with nary a need for currency.
[ can they pleaaaaaaase lock people in there ]
no subject
[He's thinking both lots of resources and soft pretzel stands, so that's where his head is at vis-a-vis The Mall. The bank, though...]
You think maybe whoever brought us here doesn't exactly get what a city is? Or maybe they don't get money... A bank with nothing to spend money on feels like a kid's idea of what a city should have in it, but not why.
drags self out of tag hell. hi. i'm back
wouldn't have known if she hadn't been told it by someone she rammed into glass. someone who was murdered but is not now. ]
Perhaps there was once money, but then there was not? Such as there being evidence of those before us, which causes my dear roommate much stress as he claims that where we live is not "ours" though I do think rightly it does, given it was unlocked and uninhabited.
[ be different if there was someone there, or if it was locked. something that looks vaguely lived in is no different than an abandoned barn to take shelter in. ]
It is quite queer, for I have never been in such a city before. Mine was much more alive, as I suppose many ought to be.
hello. welcome back
thanks. i missed you (had a thread with you there)
that's different. we're reunited at last
we are...

As she read over the questions asked and suggested however, she couldn't help a little frown and glanced up at the person who seemed to be running this particular endeavor.]
What does this mean that the kiosk is empty?
no subject
[Unhelpful. He clears his throat and shrugs, like, okay-]
I didn't rip it open, but someone else did and told me that there's nothing in there. You know, computer parts? Wires? It's just a plastic box with a screen on it.
[Honestly, kind of bullshit!! Junpei isn't sure that's not just bluetooth, mostly because he's not sure how bluetooth really works, but it seems suspicious.]
So... empty.
no subject
That... is odd. Do you know if they checked the screen too? Some technology is small enough that you could put the processor right in with the screen, though it would be at odds with the level of all the other tech around here...
Did they just destroy it to open it, or is there a way to take it apart? I assume it resets, so maybe I'll try to take it apart and see what I can find?
no subject
I don't know, I didn't see it for myself. But yeah, it resets like everything else outside the apartments, so if you wanted to go pull it open again... you could.
And are you sure it'd be weird to find tech like that in the kiosk? I mean, they're erasing people's memories, and that's not exactly simple.

[ Guess who is pretty much immune to long, tedious amount of work and also loves asking questions??? Midnight is going to make this terminal his best friend, whether it likes it or not. ]
no subject
[He wasn't exactly planning on it... It was Kromer's idea and she just pushed him over to be the PR guy on it...
Well, it's something to do, he figures.]
I guess I could give it a try. I might need a hand keeping track of everybody's stuff... And uh, copying it? Unless you have another idea for handing it out.
no subject
I don't mind helping with recordkeeping. And I've already volunteered to run letters for this group anyway... Maybe it's something I can drop off for those who are interested whenever there's a significant update. As for copies... Perhaps there's a copier in one of the office buildings?
no subject
[Dry, but he's not saying no. Copiers would make it easier, and if this place resets itself, it's not like a copier breaking down or running out of paper will be a problem.]
We could look around for a copier and stuff, but let's make sure enough people are interested, first.

Everyone really is coming together to accomplish something... You wouldn't know it by looking at him, but he's heartened by how things are going. ]
We can determine from the censored responses the things they explicitly don't want us to know. This is the kind of information we should absolutely use code for.
no subject
Oh uh, that reminds me... Don's gonna look into repeating some questions—I think—but what do you think the difference is between the censored ones and the "not at this time" ones? They're different for a reason, right? Gotta be.
no subject
Setsuna frowns at the spreadsheet. The two questions McGillis asked about the city's founding are bothering him. ]
"Year city was founded" and "how long ago the city was founded" are treated like different questions... The first asks for an exact date, but 'how long ago' could be answered more broadly. I think the difference is that the censored questions are ones they never intend to answer. The others... They're waiting for something. I don't know what, or why, but it's probably the same reason they waited to open up the second district.
no subject
Great, whoever's behind the kiosks is being a wiseass. Maybe they're waiting for a secret code? Find the key words, get the real answers?

Anyway, he'll listen to some of the chatter being had, but--speaking of that newsletter idea: ]
Did we bring up having a place to put all this info we're making up so people can find it? Does anything happen if you leave stuff out around the city?
[ Since, like, crazy stuff happens about everything else, he guesses!! ]
no subject
The guy who looks like a librarian- [he jerks his thumb over at--also Aziraphale, as it happens,] -was talking about dead drops. He's your guy for that stuff.
Apartments are safe to leave stuff in. No one's tried leaving stuff out on purpose yet, as far as I know.
no subject
God, he should've brought a notepad or something. ]
no subject
Some help these kiosks are. Do we really have to brainstorm for the right questions until we get an actual answer from these things?
no subject
Probably. Didn't it turn off after a while, though? Did anyone count how many questions we get at a time?
no subject
[ don is particularly the type to spam the kiosks with any question that comes to mind, too. ]
I saw this on that anonymous post, but it looks like the kiosks couldn't provide a list of laws either. Either we gotta figure that shit out on our own by trial and error, or...
[ someone is out there with the secret rules. ]
no subject
[Pancakes and angry spam/insults, like an adult. At least he didn't spam it into malfunction after the pancake recipe.
Anyway, oh, so Roland also saw that anon post with kiosk discussion, what a coincidence. How handy.]
Seriously, though? Wish there was a way to figure out what not to do besides... you know. Doing stuff and getting punished for it.
[This mastermind is being a real tease with the big reveal. Come out already, mastermind!!!]
