(OPEN) probably the least secret secret meeting, all things considered
WHO: Setsuna F. Seiei (
elswhisperer) & you!
WHAT: The code word log!
WHERE: City Hall Park
WHEN: July 12
WARNINGS: N/A
[ Over the course of the past few days, you may have noticed simple, nondescript flyers posted here and there across the city. All handwritten, they list a location (a particular statue in the City Park) along with a time and date (3:00 PM, July 12). Below that, an extremely brief message:
For establishing safe communications.
- moment.
On the day of, you'll find a young man in a red scarf waiting by the named statue. He has with him sheets of blank paper, pens, and pencils. ]
My name is Setsuna F. Seiei. 'Moment' from the network. The purpose of this meeting is creating a way to safely disseminate information to each other all at once. If one of us found an exit, or determined the identity of our captors, we'd be jeopardizing ourselves by revealing it openly over the network. At the same time, the network is our most efficient method of communication. We need to make the most of all the tools at our disposal.
We can accomplish that with the use of code language. One that's not complicated; that anyone could remember and pass along. What that code is and what we want to communicate with it is something one person can't determine for themselves. That's why I wanted us all to meet.
Without cooperation, we're not gonna get anywhere.
[ ooc: just a couple things! go ahead and mingle/threadhop as you like (especially bc i may not be the fastest tagger rn), and if setsuna has already mentioned to your character that he's been working on something, feel free to assume he left some kind of vague message about checking flyers over the inboxes or smth. ]

Please call me Midnight. Let me know your name so I know who's writing that article.
[ He shakes his head, still dutifully copying down that whole list. ]
I didn't realize how starved I'd be for the written word after just a few days, yet here I am. Madness.

[Paranoid Guy Junpei who came out swinging with the "this is definitely a battle royale, trust me" in the first week has absolutely gotten into dumbass arguments online. He's part of the problem.]
I'm Junpei, anyway. I've never written an article before, so it might suck.
no subject
[ Almost done with this list, and then he'll have to double check. His focus? Immaculate. ]
If your writing is on level with what's on the network, it's legible, which is more than what I can say about the city. Miss Rhul had an entire stack of books full of nonsense when we were sorting them a few days ago. I think she might still be figuring out if there was some sort of pattern in there. Bless her, but that's not for me.

[Junpei considers pointing out that he sure does have writing on the network, if his paranoid ranting about code names and battle royales is "writing," but then he decides that if someone doesn't immediately clock him as being Junpei the Paranoid Code Names Guy, that's not so bad....
Ahem.]
Well, somebody's always going nuts on there about something, at least... I dunno about patterns in the books, though. Testing the kiosk is, uh... faster.

[ Happy sigh. Like, he pauses to sigh the most heartbroken sigh a man can make. He is... how does one put this... down bad. ]
Well, different strokes. She's some sort of magical archivist where she's from, said that looking for these kinds of clues was her specialty. Me... Well, I don't mind asking questions. Could do it all day, in theory.
no subject
Uh huh... I'll take your word for it. If she finds anything good, she should come to one of these. [A little gesture around; these meetings, as he assumes there will be more.] I'm better at... visual clues, I guess? So I won't say no to help from someone who's into weird books.
no subject
Is... Isn't a word a visual clue, of sorts? Midnight blinks, blames his lack of distinction on the fact that he never pursued a secondary level education, and moves on, none the wiser. ]
I haven't seen her again since then, but I'm sure she'd like to attend if she knew. I can see why this wasn't advertised on the network, but if the plan is to hold these regularly, it's going to take a bit of work before everyone's in the know.
no subject
Yeah, I guess so. Maybe we should have come up with a code word for "it's meeting time," first... Or a symbol somewhere most people will see it, like in the window at City Hall.
no subject
[ ... Midnight shakes his head, closes his planner, and stands up. All done copying. ]
I've never done anything like this before, truth be told. It sounds reasonable to me, at least, but I also don't know what we have on hand to work with, logistically.

[And That's Okay, he has to remind himself. That's just fine and that doesn't make any of those people deserving of being flipped out online, ahem, hm, not that he flipped out on anyone online--
Anyway. That's fine. He clears his throat like he didn't just zone out for a second there. He holds up a thumbs up and immediately regrets it, but now he's committed to it so it stays--]
Well, uh... keep on coming to meetings!
no subject
Sure. You'll see me again.
[ That odd blank moment and the idea that accompanied it are going to get put in Midnight's little mental filing cabinet, though. It will come up again. ~*Foreshadowing*~ ]
