[OPEN] Let's experiment on the experiment...ers.
WHO: Tsuruno Yui (
fanstheflames), (
strongroots), and YOU.
WHAT: Spreading word about the experiment
WHERE: Around the City! Outside your apartment, in your face-- But also a portion of it at the Welcome Diner
WHEN: From early October to before the City event on the 19th!
WARNINGS: None!
There's a pair on a mission--and hopefully, a pair capable of wrangling some of their friends to join in on sharing out some fliers they've made for an experiment. But as it is, you may meet this pair when they knock at the door of where you're staying, or while you're out on the streets! Each with a friendly face, from the boy's calm nod and "Hey--you got a minute?" or the girl's [description here].
Or you've escaped meeting them in person, but found their flier slipped under the door of where you're staying. And on it reads...
PLEASE READ! A group of us want to hold an experiment on how the city will react if we don't go to a new location immediately or any event it runs. The newsletter they gave out mentioned a Halloween party, and the report in the office also mentioned a test running from the 19th to 31st of October.
What happens if we run our own party in this timeframe? What happens if we don't take part in their experiments? We should test how they react.
Don't talk about this on the network. Come to the Welcome Diner if you want to find out more. We want to hold a meeting with everyone about this plan on the 14th at the diner.
Let's see how willing they are to act.
If you come to the Welcome Diner, Robby Keene and Tsuruno Yui can be found, especially during the first week and a half of the month; others, too, with the activity taking place there. But the pair are usually behind the counter, or Robby.
Take any of the above locations -- outside your character's apartment, on the streets, or the Welcome Diner -- as a place to bump into them, or to be bumped into.
[ lookie here. ]
[ OOC: Hi this is an IC post on the subject of experimenting with city events. Both Robby and Tsuruno can talk with your character, or if you would prefer one or the other, make a note of it in the subject! ]

*swishswishswishswishswish goes the helicopter dad*
Because Mister LaRusso has that look, and Robby's been feeling slightly--unsure, since speaking with Midnight in particular. And he's had a few reservations before this, but having Mister LaRusso come and be the one to say what he's wondering is...not the best candidate for this. Like, come on. Anyone else would have been easier.
It means Robby takes a second to answer, as if that's really going to help his case. But it's at least only a second, one he uses to lick his lips, before: ] There might be some risk, but we don't know if there will be--this is the first time anyone's done something like this. But no one's gotten punished for staying back when they've done things before. And we just want people to stay away from whatever the city's gonna do.
[ Please focus on that point than absolutely any other that might be more worrisome, Mister LaRusso. ]
no subject
Right, we're not actively asking them to do anything, we're just seeing if we can protect people better this way.
But I think with this place, there's kind of a risk in anything. Maybe not a big one, but...
[ She can't lie to Daniel, not entirely. ]
no subject
I know. [ There's still something heavy in his tone, the worry thick in the air. It's not like he can't see it about them as well - that they know very well what they're dealing with here.
Which is a good thing, since it might make them at least a touch more cautious and definitely more prepared, but it's also not ideal for all of that to rest on the shoulders of two kids, no matter how capable said kids are. ]
I don't think what you two are doing is bad at all. I think it's pretty important in its own way, in fact. [ Ah, yes, the typical dad strategy of frontloading your protest or worry with a compliment first..
He stares between the two of them before adding: ] It's just.. Well, I'm sure it doesn't even have to be said [ Daniel knows what kind of impression he gives off in this department, okay!!! ] but I don't want you two to end up in harm's way because of all this.
no subject
It wouldn't be fair. ]
We know, Mister LaRusso. [ He takes on a softer tone. ] We'll...try and be as careful as we can. And we won't be doing it alone, right?
[ He presses his lips together, the look he gives to Mister LaRusso meaningful (because guess who's doing this with them, of course), though he does glance at Tsuruno. ]
We need to find out what will happen.
no subject
What we learn from this might be a really big clue on how to handle things in the future. And we all know that's important. But Robby's right, too--we're going to be really careful. Because we don't want to make anyone worry, either. And we definitely don't want people to be in danger.
I promise, we've thought it through. And we'll keep thinking about how to check on things, too.
[ She might have been way more reckless before, before Robby had run to the university to find her, but even Tsuruno is taking this seriously. ]
no subject
But he won't stop them. He's already decided that. It makes his heart ache, wondering if he's going to regret it later, but.. he slowly exhales, trying to shove down worry far enough that he can put on an expression that's a touch lighter for these two. ]
It's okay.
[ I get it, he means. ]
Maybe you two should instead let me know if there's something I can do for your party, hm?
[ Like it is just a party they're planning, and not something that could piss whoever is in charge of this place off enough to retaliate. Maybe he doesn't want them to have to think about it too hard either right now. ]
no subject
For now... ]
You got snack ideas? No one can feel bad with some of your cooking.
[ Or baking. Same difference to this boy and his encouraging tone. ]
no subject
[ brightly. She's fine. Hasn't stabbed herself yet! Daniel should be so proud and she shoots Robby a grin in response; she's opting to think optimistically for now. ]
no subject
[ Sorry, Tsuruno. Knife skills in the kitchen is one thing, but he's not sure he's ready to extend those to pumpkin carving just yet, girl!!
.. though he might just be teasing her about it, since Daniel does his best to smile a little more, hoping the cheer might spread to the kids here. Tsuruno already seems to have a bit of it going on, though Daniel figures there's probably more worry underneath it than she's letting on to. ]
Do you maybe want to do that, Robby? [ WOW, DANIEL.. Playing favourites, sir!!!
But at least he gives Tsuruno a headpat before adding: ] Then you can help me with the snacks, since that's your speciality. Maybe we can make something Halloween-themed? Are you two planning on fully theming the party?
no subject
(Don't worry, Tsuruno. He'll tell you later he trusts you with a knife. :) )]
We'll put some effort into it. [ That's Robby's approach to it, anyway. ] Long as you have drinks and a few decorations and good music, the details don't really matter. And it's only a test party. [ So!!
...truthfully, Robby's more concerned about Mister LaRusso zoning in on the 'drinks' part, and so, very strategically: ] We got someone to bartend. Midnight offered?
[ Robby knows Mister LaRusso knows the guy, but let's just say the name like we're so innocent here. ]
no subject
[ A semi-dramatic huff. Just because she made one little joke about not getting blood on the food, now Daniel thinks she's a hazard to herself! Gosh. ]
I think it'd be fun to make themed snacks, though. [ And she'll probably do a lot more for the atmosphere, because even if Robby says the details don't matter, Tsuruno knows no chill. ]
But do you know Midnight? This was my first time meeting him.
no subject
And then said teens throw him another curveball entirely by just bringing up the name of a guy who kissed him literally only a few days ago. G-Granted, it was necessarily-because-of-this-place kissing, but still--
D-Don't sweat, Daniel. Don't show weakness in front of these kids. They're like sharks, they can smell the sensei blood in the water! ]
Yeah, I know him. [ S-Smooth.. Casual.. Just play it casual, LaRusso!! ] He's helped me out a lot, even back when I first showed up here.
[ HAHA DON'T ASK HOW HE GOT HELPED OUT, JUST QUICKLY MOVING ON. ]
You can trust him for sure, he's a really good guy. I know he might seem a little odd at times, but he's really got his heart in the right place.
no subject
No, since he has no reason to think there's anything odd going on. Instead, he continues off from the man: ] He offered to help with the new people showing up here when we asked everyone about the diner. [ He's looking at Tsuruno as he speaks. ] And he told me he met Mister LaRusso when he was still having trouble with his throat.
[ He does glance at the sensei then, but he's relatively casual about the information. All that might be shocking about it is how much Robby apparently knows about Mister LaRusso and Midnight's friendship..... ]
no subject
[ Tsuruno, similarly to Robby, sees nothing wrong here or at least Daniel hasn't bled enough in the water for her to pick up the scent. He's safe for now. ]
I'm glad he was there to help, though! It sounds like you guys must be be good friends by now.
no subject
Well, I don't know about the good part.. I wouldn't want to claim anything without him saying it himself. [ At least Daniel can play it off with a smile.
(Don't mind your old sensei being terrible at making friends, kids.) ]
But it is true that we met pretty close to when I first arrived. I'm pretty sure it might even have been my very first day here. [ Hence why Midnight would have known about Daniel's pathetic little meow meow state, especially his throat.. ] I ran into him while trying to investigate city hall. Seems like he was trying to do the same thing back then.
[ He's trying to not steer too close to that topic though, since he doesn't want to make Robby and Tsuruno think about the heavier implications of what they're doing here again though. ]
Either way, he is very-- [ hm. ] -- affectionate, yes.
[ Using pet names counts as that, right. ]
He worked in the service industry back home. [ Funny way to say 'sex worker', Daniel. But, look, he's talking to kids?? He needs to censor it for their innocent ears?? ] Maybe Midnight picked up the habit there.
no subject
Huh. [ It's all the sound Robby makes by the end of what Mister LaRusso says, and the city hall--he remembers going there too, to absolutely nothing of value being found. This isn't the time and place for that, though, and it's a moot point, so. ]
He seems okay, [ is Robby's remarkable assessment. ] He likes getting to know people.
[ A beat. ...and then, with a curious expression with it: ]
Is he an elf?
no subject
But Tsuruno blinks at Robby, a little bewildered. Elf? Of all the--oh. ]
Because of the pointy ears...? [ well. Wouldn't be the weirdest thing, she guesses. ] Well, it's true that he doesn't feel human...
no subject
.. you know, 'okay' is actually quite a good assessment in teen terms, isn't it. Daniel can't even remember the last time he heard Robby describe anyone as more than just 'okay'.. Maybe when they were talking about mister Miyagi, long ago.
Also, wait, Tsuruno, feel human--
Okay, letting both of these slide for a moment, even if Daniel is having some Thoughts about it. Mostly because he has an actual answer to their question. ]
He calls himself a demon, but it's pretty different from our world's concept of those. You know, from horror movies. [ He's mostly saying it to Robby, though he does turn to Tsuruno to give her a slight 'sorry if it's different in yours' or 'sorry to talk about our world in front of your salad' sort of apologetic look. It's not like he knows whether or not Tsuruno's world has a similar idea of them.. ] It seems more just like a specific race of people where he comes from. But if he's got any sort of special powers after all, then I'm not aware of it.
[ In other words: you'd have to go ask the man yourself, kids. You're curious and bold enough for it, Daniel knows. ]
no subject
(It was also because of the blue elf he and Tsuruno met, ok.)
But at Mister LaRusso's answer, he seems to generally accept it; giving the slightest shrug and 'hm', the equivalent of an 'oh, alright' in response. Was his questioning or curiosity that deep? Not really.
But he does seem to remember something, shooting Mister LaRusso a (not specific!) look with his expression becoming cheerier. ]
Well, next time you see him, he wanted to get to know you more. You can spend more time getting to know him. [ Suggested, in the most non-suggestive way ever, even if his joking tone might suggest (to a nervous car salesman) otherwise. ]
no subject
If he doesn't mind, I'll have to talk to him about it! When you're not spending more time with him, of course.
[ This is also said in the most non-suggestive way ever. It's entirely innocent. Surely they're not onto you, Daniel. ]
no subject
W-Wait, hold on? ]
He wanted to get to know me more? [ That by itself would be one thing, especially when it's Midnight they're talking about, and Daniel thinks the other man is way too friendly for his own good.. But then Tsuruno just has to add that last part onto it too, and that truly takes one old man by surprise here.
Not even that he thinks they're on to something or trying to tease him. He's just a little surprised by all of this coming at once. ]
Did he say that?
[ What DID you talk about with Midnight, Robby!! H-Hello?! ]
no subject
(fellas, is it gay if a guy wants to get to know you???) ]
Yeah. [ So Robby answers, managing to make that question mark on the end be mostly silent. A glance given to Tsuruno, as if to silently ask, Is this funny to see an old guy ask to you too? ] You worried about a demon getting to know you?
[ Okay, he had to. ]
no subject
But maybe he's worried? Is that it? ]
I don't think he's going to... [ there's a wry tone now-- ] Contract with you for your soul or anything like that, if you're worried about it.
no subject
[ To both of these kids! Daniel even frowns a little bit as he says it, almost feeling guilty, especially considering what Midnight told him. The kind of discrimination he had to face back home, the terms some people used..
The last thing Daniel would want to do is make these kids think he's anything like the idea of a demon they might have. It feels unfair towards Midnight, especially when Daniel's surprise is for a different reason entirely. ]
It's not like that at all. Midnight's just like you guys and me, I swear. It's just-- just the word they use where he comes from, you know?
[ But just in case the kids might not believe a sensei here, especially when Daniel is the king of overcompensating, he adds: ]
I just, uh.. [ Good job, Daniel, losing track of what you can even say two words into a sentence. Coming across real convincing here. D-Don't mind it if the tips of your sensei's ears grow just a little bit darker with bashfulness. ] I didn't think he'd say something like that about me.
no subject
The shy note of it all is very cute, though. Sorry, Mister LaRusso, but Robby's going to take this time to look at Tsuruno, and say sympathetically: ]
Sounds like Mister LaRusso needs to get to know more people.
[ Listen to him. He's like a wallflower over here. ]
