[ between all those sinister whispers, that voice is clear and more vivid with an intent to grasp the other boy's attention. in any given situation, denji would've walked away from this, and he still didn't hold enough sympathy to feel sorry for that boy. instead, he is more motivated out of spite against those dumb plants. after all, he had his share of their abuse a while ago and somehow managed to break free— if this is their idea of fun, he will cockblock them to all eternity.
from a closer perspective— that kid really didn't look so good. so, he calls out to him again. ]
[ Yuji jumps when he hears the voice, turning and raising his fists immediately. He doesn't recognise the person speaking to him, but his expression tightens all the same. He might be the kind of person to be more trusting than others, much to his detriment, but right now, in the middle of all these flowers? He's not in any kind of mood to be too forthcoming.
He's on edge, and he grits his teeth before he shakes his head. ]
A part, in a machine. It keeps it turning.
[ Does he want to explain why they're choosing that particular word? No. He'd rather follow the more literal route right now. ]
... That's a weird choice of word to insult someone.
[ that is the vibe of this place, isn't it? personal jabs and insults. as for 'murderer' — well, denji can understand that is a low blow but hurtful regardless, especially if it's true. he meets yuuji's intensity with a dull calm; almost familiar, knowing. ]
I wish I can say something like 'don't let them get to you' but this city has a talent for making you feel like shit. It might help to know this isn't directed at you alone. You're not special here. We're all bullied equally.
[ trauma bonding— it does bring some level of ease, denji assumes. he then sighs, miserable, as he glanced around them, the plants never stopped their taunts the entire time, somewhat closing in on them. the word 'murderer' echoes once again, but it's not directed at yuuji this time. ]
It's like it's reading our minds, isn't it? It knows exactly what words to use.
[ Yuji glances between Denji and the plants, not really wanting to go into too many details - the idea of airing all the things going through his mind to someone he's never really met before isn't something he wants to indulge in. Sure, Higuruma might have said that he wasn't guilty, but...
He still feels it. The words still echo in his mind, and he shakes his head. ]
What can I do to get rid of them, then?
[ If he can't fight them, or punch them, or even eat them... Then what is he supposed to do, other than tolerate it all? ]
[ luckily for yuji, he won't ask more— so they don't need to indulge in any intimate conversation while being mercifully taunted of their old sins. they both get the idea of this place, and maybe there is truth behind all those whispers after all. well, denji knows it's the truth in his case, so that applies to the other boy too, right? perhaps it's okay to acknowledge it within themselves instead of pointing fingers. from one murderer to another, they should get along until they find their way out. ]
I don't know. [ really, he doesn't. denji sure did walk up to the situation as if he knew what he was doing, but nope. he exhaled another tired sigh and then shrugged. ]
I guess we should keep walking until we figure something out ...
[ Yuji's glad he doesn't need to talk about it, though. The idea of having to explain his own hurt and the way his stomach is all tangled up and aching is a little too much. It's bad enough that this random guy is aware enough of his hurt to have been able to hear it all, and Yuji wants to fight it off so much - he wants to do nothing more than push himself through it all and come out the other side without being too upset.
Glancing at the flowers, he grits his teeth, nodding. ]
Do you think we can just... Leave?
[ In his experience, these kinds of things follow you around... ]
[ they will pursue them further, shadowing their every move. it hurts, it sucks but they should find their way out of here instead of being crippled by guilt— it was, somehow, a lot easier on denji than the other guy to pull himself out of it. perhaps the city put more energy into oppressing the new recruits over the boomers. ]
Yup. I've been stuck in so many places in here. It's getting pretty annoying at this point.
[ he begins to walk in a random direction, pushing through the looming vines as they curl around them; maybe getting close enough to whisper more taunts into their ear. denji isn't the type to start a conversation, but if things fall into an eerie silence again— those voices will get louder and more sinister. with his back facing the other, he randomly asked. ]
[ Yuji nods his head, walking forward. If he can push his way out of here then that would be great, but if he has to fight then he can do that too. What does he have to lose? He hasn't got cursed energy, he already has scars... It doesn't seem to matter much in the long run. ]
Let's do it.
[ He's content to follow after Denji, as if finally happy to have someone to tell him what to do and give him a little bit of guidance, trying to ignore the taunts and the whispers. They keep circling around murder, death, what he knows he could pin to Sukuna but can't quite bring himself to blame entirely on the curse. He had eaten the finger, after all.
