So you're unaware. Maybe new. Or maybe you just didn't care the first time you saw it. That's fine. Between the banners hanging around key areas, and the flyers quickly drawn up in a similar fashion scattered across the city, it's hard not to know something is going on -- and there's helpful arrows, chalked on building walls and the streets the day of the party, to let people know where to go.

The Rooftop

A splendid scene awaits those who travel heavensward. Fairy lights connect the corners of the roof access building to metal poles at the corners of the building itself, lifted by cylindrical supports where needed, each one held straight by pots filled with well-packed dirty and stone. There's multicolored stars hanging from some of the lights, while various painted flowers hang on others, and what greets the ears first is some royalty free party music played from a CD player off the the side.

There's a long folded out table in the center for those who'd like to share cuisine, just set and serve yourself! Nearby is a space for Daan to do some bartending as well, a man who can make a multitude of cocktails and mocktails for those who want something less alcoholic. Also, pints of various ice cream flavors in a cooler!

Don't worry -- they won't have any odd effects on them, Don verified the lack of them herself. Not all of them are normal. Think loaded baked potato weird.

For those who'd like a quieter space, there's beanbags and a swirly, fuzzy carpet to sit on more away from the center of the party area. This'll be a great time to play some games, such as truth or dare, spin the bottle, and... whatever else you play at parties. Get to know your fellow man and such. Play the violin.

Naturally, no party... hosted... by Don Quixote would be without a space to fight, if one wishes to show off a little! It's also taking place on a swirly fuzzy carpet, just so no one smashes their head in, and there's a neat little banner hanging down from a string of lights that says thus:

WIN THREE MATCHES AND A PRIZE AWAITS THEE!!!!!!!

What the prize is, no one knows. But come find Don Quixote with your battle scars and she'll grant it -- and stick around a while, 'cause this party's gonna end with a bang... that is, with homemade fireworks donated by "a friend" through Junpei.

Anyway, have fun!!! Share words about your worlds!!! The society your characters are from, the cuisine they've brought, how they're working out in the city -- help the new kids along, too. There's more vets here now than there were a few months ago, after all.

[ The look was entirely expected. How dare he worry about one such as him? The reaction is not as harsh as Hob anticipated, though. ]

Don't get offended. I'd worry even if you had all your power. This place is not normal.

[ not as harsh, no. he seems to look at Hob closely for a moment, looking him over before glancing back to the youths. ]

But I am not offended, Hob. Because is that not what friends do?

[ There may be some fear behind Hob's eyes. Things seem to be better between them since Dream found him at the New Inn, but the situation here is different. Hob has reason to be concerned. Would Dream take it the wrong way?

When Dream says he's not offended and poses his question, there's a shuddery laugh, as Hob had been holding his breath. ]

Right. Of course they do.

[hypnagothic]

You need not hold your nerves with me, Hob.

[ he glances back at him, more out of the corner of his eye than not. but he seems to hold a faint smile now. ]

I can hardly escape from you, here.

[ Dream may be acting cool about it, but Hob is definitely grinning right at him. ]

I'm sure you have your ways.

[ But it's good to know Dream is giving him some leeway as a friend, and Hob is genuinely concerned for Dream's safety after he's already disappeared from this place once, even if Dream has no memory of it. And they had such a nice time together at the last party. Hob is enjoying their time together now, too. ]

[ there's more evidence of a smile forming now. ]

Though it would be rude to leave you yet again without warning.

[ Hob's smile softens, as he appreciates those words. Dream has changed a lot during that period of absence. ]

There were nights I regretted not doing more to stop you. Though I'm sure that would've turned out very badly for me. I'm glad you came back.

They likely would have, depending on that you would have done.

[ Hob doesn't actually know what he would have done if it happened all over again. He knows grabbing Dream would've been a very bad idea. Hob was just so hurt and angry at the time, and Dream was so proud. But maybe also hurt, if the sting in his eyes meant anything. ]

Well, it's in the past now, and we're stuck here, like it or not.

[ the smile fades then, looking out again amongst the party-goers. ]

I could think of with worse people to be stuck with.

[ And although Hob didn't know Johanna prior to this, she's nice to have around, too. ]

A lot of people here seem to be quite capable. Trained in fighting or magic or just... possessing abilities.

[ And then there's Hob, who's quite ordinary by comparison in most ways. ]

Well, I met a god of mischief.

[ And a god's powers are innate, aren't they? At least, Hob suspects Loki has such power, since he's a god and all. ]

Others I've met are trained to fight. Even the host of this party introduced herself to me kind of like a movie super hero or something. Ready to come running to the rescue at any moment.

[ Hob figured she was just having a bit of make-believe, but he has to wonder the more people here he gets to know. ]

Then it's quite the menagerie we have with us tonight.

[ said as if he's used to such things. but really, when has he not sounded like that? ]

[ Dream is used to such things, Hob is sure of that. But Hob? He's still getting accustomed to the idea. He's never felt quite so... ordinary. Not that it's such a bad thing. But what is his place in all this? Among such people? ]

It is. I think I should get drunk tonight.

[ Somehow, it feels appropriate. ]

You'll make sure I don't fall off the roof, right?

[ that makes Dream turn his head to face him, looking mildly surprised. ]

Were you planning to drink to excess?

[ Not when he got here, anyway. ]

I guess I've been drinking more in general since I got here, though.

[ There was the first party that was thrown. Then again, recently, with Johanna. ]

But it's a party, and the games aren't really my style.

[ He's not about to spin the bottle and risk kissing someone half his 'perceived' age. ]

No dancing for you then, either? Or ... brawling?

[ if that's the word for whatever it is they're doing on the carpet. ]

Given that more than a few people here seem to be professionally trained fighters, I'm afraid I'd be out of my depth.

But both of those activities are easier to start once you've had a few drinks, even if your skill level might decline.

[ He hesitates to mention it, but in the end, the desire to see Dream's reaction wins. ]

We danced, by the way. At the first mixer.

[ that certainly does get a reaction, Dream's eyes widening as his head turns towards Hob, then narrowing in a frown. ]

[ Hob's not offended. ]

[ he's still getting That Look, though it is easing now that the initial shock has eased off. ]

No. I am surprised by it.

[ Hob laughs. ]

I believe there was something in the drinks that night that made everyone more inclined to dance.

[ That should make Dream feel better. ]

[ it actually does, yes. his non-existent hackles start to lower back down to his normal prickly levels, though Hob laughing at him doesn't really help. ]

I see. That this place can so casually alter my nature is still surprising.

[ Ahem. Well, it was funny to Hob, anyway. One day, maybe his friend will lighten up a little. ]

It is concerning. But don't underestimate my old world charm, either. I've been known to alter a few natures myself.
