So you're unaware. Maybe new. Or maybe you just didn't care the first time you saw it. That's fine. Between the banners hanging around key areas, and the flyers quickly drawn up in a similar fashion scattered across the city, it's hard not to know something is going on -- and there's helpful arrows, chalked on building walls and the streets the day of the party, to let people know where to go.

The Rooftop

A splendid scene awaits those who travel heavensward. Fairy lights connect the corners of the roof access building to metal poles at the corners of the building itself, lifted by cylindrical supports where needed, each one held straight by pots filled with well-packed dirty and stone. There's multicolored stars hanging from some of the lights, while various painted flowers hang on others, and what greets the ears first is some royalty free party music played from a CD player off the the side.

There's a long folded out table in the center for those who'd like to share cuisine, just set and serve yourself! Nearby is a space for Daan to do some bartending as well, a man who can make a multitude of cocktails and mocktails for those who want something less alcoholic. Also, pints of various ice cream flavors in a cooler!

Don't worry -- they won't have any odd effects on them, Don verified the lack of them herself. Not all of them are normal. Think loaded baked potato weird.

For those who'd like a quieter space, there's beanbags and a swirly, fuzzy carpet to sit on more away from the center of the party area. This'll be a great time to play some games, such as truth or dare, spin the bottle, and... whatever else you play at parties. Get to know your fellow man and such. Play the violin.

Naturally, no party... hosted... by Don Quixote would be without a space to fight, if one wishes to show off a little! It's also taking place on a swirly fuzzy carpet, just so no one smashes their head in, and there's a neat little banner hanging down from a string of lights that says thus:

What the prize is, no one knows. But come find Don Quixote with your battle scars and she'll grant it -- and stick around a while, 'cause this party's gonna end with a bang... that is, with homemade fireworks donated by "a friend" through Junpei.

Anyway, have fun!!! Share words about your worlds!!! The society your characters are from, the cuisine they've brought, how they're working out in the city -- help the new kids along, too. There's more vets here now than there were a few months ago, after all.

[As a Doctor who cannot go ten minutes without thinking about medical problems, Tenma is keenly aware that... something is off about Roland, despite meeting him for about an hour previously to eat sandwiches. It's the vacant stare? The off-kilter demeanor?

But he could just be exhausted. He's not behaving in a way urgent enough for Tenma to make a scene (medically); just enough for Roland to now have a hovering doctor loitering around his food station, just in case. In a normal and respectful way...

Anyway, surely Roland remembers his big drab trenchcoat and his big canvas bag, which he has brought to this party. Hi, guy. Hi, seafood platter?? Tenma doesn't ask for food, he has to be bullied into it, sorry.]

I don't think I did. There are a lot of excitable young people here... You must be keeping busy!

[ the trenchcoat and big bag ring a bell, thankfully! the voice too, somewhat. the nondescript face... not so much. roland's not one to talk at all because he's just as nondescript (or at least he REALLY wants to be one), but did he stick out way too much for this guy to take notice of him? just because he can't see doesn't meant he can't tell that he's being watched, thanks to his own built-in intuition as a fixer.

well, maybe the guy's just worried about him. any sane person would, if they keep spotting roland making mild mistakes at the table when he's normally more thorough. ]

Ah, sorry. You want the pork platter then? That's been a real hit so far. [ he huffs. ] A lot of young people? Huh, haven't really noticed.

[ since he really can't see them right now... help. ]

Anyway, I forgot to introduce myself back there. [ he extends a hand, his eyes still not meeting tenma's. ] Roland. Just a Grade 9 Fixer and librarian, not that it matters in a City like this.

[Honestly Tenma is two seconds away from shining a little light in Roland's eyes to check for abnormal pupil dilation, so keep doing totally normal things. Only propriety is keeping his medical kneejerk responses in check; were this not a fun party full of young people, the jig would already be up.

But he'll shake hands like a normal person, without even lingering to judge for clammy skin or anything like that. Maybe Roland won't look him in the eye because Tenma keeps staring at him intently, ahem...]

Tenma. I'm a doctor—a surgeon. Hopefully with a lot less work to do, but if anything ever happens...

[Call him immediately, thanks. He should make business cards. Anyway, let him just park himself here in a seat, innocuously. Hmm!]

[ SHIT why does he keep meeting doctors at a time like this. a surgeon on top of that too - wonder if it includes eyes? 'cause roland's still not gonna meet him in the eye. ]

I don't wanna put a damper on that, Doc, but there are already cases of people killing each other these past few months? They get brought back to life but with some consequences. Still, we can never say no to another doctor in the group.

[ how can he choose between him and daan, huh. decisions, decisions. ]

The pork platter's a huge hit, so I'd say it's one of my faves. I'd eat off anything here if I could. [ he dips a piece of pork into the spicy soup, gives that a little stir. ] You can also try the exotic platter if you're brave enough.

[One day Roland will learn about neurosurgery and understand why Tenma keeps staring at him like he is. One day. There's a brief moment where he is absolutely bewildered by the casual drop of murder, again—Daan's already told him this and it was just as sobering and awful the first time, although at least Daan wasn't as casual about it. Ah, but he can't lose focus on this patient in front of him. Stalwart, Dr. Tenma!!

Oh, and,] I'll try the pork platter. I don't think I'm feeling brave enough for anything too out there.

[Can't he just relax and stare in peace... hmm...]

I've heard... about death in this place. It's unbelievable... I hope it doesn't cheapen anyone's will to hang on to life.

[ king he never went to an actual school why would he even think to get a medical degree. at least daan had an excuse to be blase about the concept of murder, given his profession, so why not this guy?

Yeah, that depends on the person. There are ones who just find it to be an normal part of life, and others who think otherwise. I'm a mercenary by trade, so I'm used to it. Aren't you?

Do you really think being a doctor makes death "normal"? I took an oath to save as many lives as I can. Should I really give up on my patients because they're going to die one day, no matter what?

It is a tragedy. I'm just desensitized, is all. [ a shrug. ] I will say, though -- I don't get to meet doctors as compassionate as you. At least from what you said just now. Some of them have some sort of god complex, y'see. That or they just wanna harvest guts for cash.

[That's just his opinion; if someone is a corrupt nightmare or literally trafficking organs, they aren't even a doctor in name only! It's terrible that Roland has had such a disappointing experience with doctors ("doctors") and it's sad that he's so desensitized to human tragedy—Tenma merely watches him dip in the hotpot for lack of anything to say to those that isn't a greeting card platitude. But he'll remember; he'll try to keep an eye on Roland, if he can...

Anyway. Keep it light, Dr. Tenma, this is a party,]

We have to take an oath and everything, but admittedly even I had my attention split at the ceremony between that and the hors d'oeuvres.

...Yeah, probably. Never really to visit one for long-term injuries either. But I do get banged up every now and then.
