TEST DRIVE MEME

A TRAIN COMES INTO THE STATION.
You wake up on a train.

Your phone is buzzing. It's in your pocket, in your hand, on the seat next to you. It's a normal phone, and you're on a normal train car. One of the lights flickers, a little further down. The world is very quiet. It feels like you're right where you're meant to be. On the phone's surface is a white screen and the words—

WELCOME TO THE CITY. BEGIN ORIENTATION?

▶ YES
▶ NO

Please take a moment to complete your orientation.

Once you're finished, the subway doors slide open to let you out onto the train platform. To your right, the platform continues on and eventually ends; to the left is a set of stairs that will lead you up into the station itself. The platform is quiet, clean, empty—there's no one else around, and the only sounds you can hear are your own footsteps, your own breaths, and the occasional faraway sound of a creaking pipe or rush of air. The train you disembarked will stay there as long as you do, its doors still open, until you finally decide to venture up into this new locale.

As you make your way up the stairs to your left, you find yourself in the belly of City Hall station. The station is large, a sprawling underground mini-metropolis of corridors and storefronts. Here, you may find others like you, freshly-arrived city residents from other realms (or even your own). There is also a subway map, which will give you an idea of the layout of the neighborhood, and ticketing machines, which can currently only be used to buy tickets to a handful of stations located on lines 1, 2, and 9.

If you're hungry or in need of any kind of supplies, there are plenty of storefronts inside the subway station as well—snack stands, convenience stores, restaurants, clothing stores, a pharmacy, and a variety of empty shops that may or may not have ever been in use. Everything is unlocked, and you can take whatever you need.

Characters may stay on the train platform indefinitely, and may re-board and re-disembark from the subway as many times as they like, but the train will not depart nor will the doors close. Once they go up the stairs into the train station, they may hear the train doors closing and the train departing. Another train will not arrive, no matter how long the character waits. Only once they come up the stairs into the station itself may characters encounter their fellow newly-arrived residents and take advantage of what the city has to offer.

WELCOME TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD.
The station is located in the city center. It has three major exits that lead to areas of interest in the district, but there are several other smaller exits that lead in other directions around the neighborhood. You are welcome to use any of them, but may find the north, southwest, and east exits to be the most welcoming.
TO THE NORTH
The northern entrance to the station leads up into the sunlight and puts you out in a brickwork plaza. There's a modest building in front of you, three or four stories of stone with a welcoming facade. There's a sign above the entryway—it says City Hall. You may be tempted to explore, if you're interested in learning more about the city and how it functions, but prepare to find yourself disappointed—the folders in the records rooms are full of empty, blank sheets of paper, and the logbooks and balance sheets are similarly devoid of information.

Immediately to the southwest of City Hall, you will find a small building that houses the tourist information kiosk. It looks welcoming, with an inviting glass facade and a sign above the entryway announcing it as the "TOURIST CENTER." It's a humble building with a receptionist's desk on the back wall opposite the entrance, empty magazine shelves lining the side walls, and a few spinning brochure racks full of blank pamphlets. Anyone is welcome to peruse the tourist literature, though they won't offer much information, being primarily filled with pictures of the surrounding area—City Hall, the park, a statue garden, and the surprisingly heavily-featured cemetery. There are a few sentences sprinkled throughout about basic offerings of the city, such as apartment complexes and office buildings, as well as a few maps with the same limited scope as the larger version on the wall behind the receptionist's desk.

The main feature of the tourist center is the interactive kiosk installed dead in the center, right in the middle of a few rows of uncomfortable chairs that fill the small room. It's noticeably in the way of any would-be foot traffic through the tourist center, and something about the technology seems a little more modern than the computer behind the desk or the landline phone on the wall. The kiosk is a tall silver rectangle, about average adult height, and the upper half is a screen welcoming visitors to touch it to activate the kiosk. If you were to touch it, the screen would come to life with simple dialogue inviting visitors to ask it their questions.

However, residents should note that the kiosk is only programmed to assist with exploration within the available areas of the city. It may not be able to answer every question, and tampering with the kiosk may result in unreliable or inaccurate answers!
TO THE SOUTHWEST
The western exit of the station takes you up into a city park, lush and green with a very light fog still hanging about the trees. There are lampposts on the walkways and benches where you could rest, and plenty of flora, although you can neither see nor hear any signs of animal life. You walk the paths that meander idly through the verdant grass and you feel a sense of peace, some of your unease about this place easing into a pleasant calm. The air smells fresh, like it's recently rained, and you'll find the grass ever so slightly damp should you decide to take a seat.

As you make your way deeper into the park, the trees grow denser and the smell of soil and plant life grows stronger. This is the older part of the park, very nearly a forest, with ivy climbing the trunks of the trees and plants and shrubs growing riotously around their bases. As you turn a corner, you find yourself first in the statue garden, although the statues are harder to see now, choked as they are with ivy. There are many statues, some partially obscured, some fully—very few of them still stand free of the vines and clinging roots. (It doesn't feel quite as peaceful here.) If a statue's face looks a little bit familiar, you may not want to look at it too long.

Continue down the path and you will find yourself in a graveyard, one that seems centuries old. Most of the headstones are worn away by time and covered in moss, rendering them impossible to read. The few that are free of moss are blank, or bear only suggestions of names too faint to be understood. (Was that the name of—no, it couldn't have been. Could it?) Many of the headstones stand at an angle or are toppled over completely, having been subjected to either strong winds or the roots of the trees that grow up from some of the graves, spreading branches toward the sky.
TO THE EAST
The final exit of the station, to the east, puts you out on a quiet surface street. Are you hungry? Or are you paralyzed by choice? There are plenty of restaurants, offering options of almost any food you can imagine. You could try a convenience store—it's well stocked, and the items there seem free for the taking. How about a restaurant? There's no one to take your order, but when you look in the kitchen, there's something on the stove, and it's just what you've been craving. Imagine that.

A few blocks down, you come in through the lobby of a tall building and find yourself in a corporate office. The fluorescent lights are steady and unforgiving, and the cubicles and offices are empty. There are a few pieces of paper on desks, a few folders left in organizers, but everything is perfectly blank. Despite how empty and quiet the office is, it nonetheless gives you the feeling that just a few minutes ago, this place was bustling with workers going about their daily business.

You enter another building and find yourself in the lobby of an apartment complex—finally, a place to rest. The first door you try opens easily into a completely empty living room, freshly vacuumed but without a single piece of furniture. It's a nice apartment, quiet, but with a little too much echo for your taste, maybe. Still, and perhaps oddly, you have no trouble envisioning what life here would be like.

The second door you open leads to an apartment that feels lived-in. Why does it feel lived-in? It's fully furnished with items that seem to go together perfectly, true, but the feeling is more than that—the room feels like someone was just here, maybe standing right in the kitchen only moments before you swung the door open. The air is a perfectly comfortable temperature, and it somehow smells like home despite that you've never once set foot here before. The refrigerator is stocked, and the cabinets are full of spices and flatware and kitchen utensils.

As you look around the living room, you find that there are pictures in frames on the walls and some of the flat surfaces—a seascape, a field, a shot of a city park bench. In each of the photos there's something just slightly wrong with the angle, as though the photographer were aiming for a subject that can no longer be seen.

Characters are welcome to explore the district around the City Hall subway station to their heart's content. The City Hall building itself contains several floors of offices and file rooms, but none of them contain any particularly interesting information. Nonetheless, characters may wish to team up with other newcomers and try to find some hints about the nature of the city. They can also spend a while in the park, the statue garden, or the graveyard. In the blocks surrounding the station there are plenty of options for food and housing, as well as office buildings, storefronts, and alleyways to look around. There are no workers in any of the buildings, and there does not seem to be an honor system for payment, nor any consequences for taking food from the stores or setting up camp in an apartment or office building.

I SCREAM, YOU SCREAM.
Have you ever visited the ice cream parlor located in District 2? It's a pretty quirky little joint!

When you walk in, what you'll likely notice first is the colors. Everything is bright, almost oversaturated—the pink of the leather seats, the teal of the walls, the red of the menu sign hanging over the counter. By all rights it seems like these colors shouldn't go together, but somehow they do, or maybe that's just because being in an ice cream parlor puts you in a good mood. It smells like waffle cones, and overhead, there's music pumping through the speakers at just the right volume, providing some nice background noise to your decision-making process.

Wait, music?

There's a jukebox at the far end of the shop, which seems to be where the music is being chosen. As you head over, the song comes to an end and the jukebox machinery shuffles through its options before landing on a new one. The song sounds sort of familiar, doesn't it? And the longer you listen, the more the lyrics really seem to speak to you. It costs money to pick your own song, so if you happen to have some coins on you—or if you're really, really determined—you can choose the next round of tunes.

When you're done at the jukebox, you can go check out the serving area of the shop. Behind the counter you can see milkshake mixers and waffle cone makers; there are ice cream cakes in the freezers that line the wall; and when you approach the main counter you can see the tubs of ice cream in almost any flavor you can imagine.

Pick a flavor, whichever one's your favorite! Do you want it in a cone or in a bowl? There are regular cones and waffle cones, and all kinds of toppings—sprinkles, syrups, gummy candy, mini marshmallows. Decorate your ice cream however you want, the sky's the limit when it comes to choices! You can even come back for seconds if you want, or thirds. Who's going to say anything about it, after all?

But the more of your ice cream you eat, the more you start to feel… strange. Maybe you're starting to get angry, or sad, or giddy—maybe you feel romantic, or feel like you want to tell a secret to a stranger, and you're not really sure why. You also can't quite seem to stop eating your ice cream, and the more you eat, the less worried you feel about whatever's happening to your emotions. After all, why be concerned about that when you have something so delicious in front of you?

Flavor Effect
Strawberry You find yourself compelled to seek out strangers and tell them a hidden truth about yourself
Rocky Road You find yourself compelled to seek out strangers and convince them of some egregious lie
Vanilla You are overwhelmed by a sense of total calm, and can only speak in aphorisms and platitudes
Rainbow Sherbert You are overwhelmed by amorous feelings towards whoever is near you and try to cuddle or kiss them
Chocolate You feel suddenly morose about something in your past and cannot stop crying until someone consoles you
Bubblegum You become uncontrollably giggly and giddy, and can only speak in rhyme
Caramel Ribbon You become angry and perhaps even violent, trying to attack anyone who comes near
Mint Chocolate Chip You suddenly have a common but exaggerated phobia (for example, a fear of heights where the step down off the curb is too much)

When characters first enter the ice cream parlor, they may notice that there's music playing overhead! That's from the jukebox, and the lyrics of the song may sound like they're particularly apt for a character's circumstances. Players are welcome to choose their own jukebox songs for their characters—it doesn't need to have appeared in canon, but characters from modern times are welcome to recognize the music being played. (Players can also feel free not to pick a real song at all, and instead just describe the overall sound of the song and content of the lyrics!)

This is an ice cream parlor, so of course there's also ice cream to be had. Characters can serve themselves whatever flavor combination they want, but shortly thereafter will find themselves suffering certain emotional effects depending on what flavors they chose. These emotional effects, shown above, will last for roughly an hour before slowly dissipating, and their intensity depends on how much ice cream the character ate and whether they were able to recognize what was happening and stop eating. Not every flavor has an emotional effect, so players can also choose to have their character eat a normal scoop and go about their day.

WILDCARD.
The city is by no means small, and there are plenty of things for you to see. There's no rush in exploring, so feel free to take your time looking around and peering into various nooks and crannies and alleyways—and don't worry, you're not very likely to find anything peering back.

If none of the above prompts appeal, feel free to check out the Locations and Maps pages and write your own freestyle prompt using one or many of the available locations.

Wanda Maximoff | MCU

[personal profile] hydric 2023-08-07 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
( welcome to the neighborhood )
[Wanda isn't entirely sure of this place or at least what she can trust of it. She knows this isn't her doing, that this reality is not hers nor did she travel here of her own volition. The only thing that truly takes her interest is the concept of the tourist kiosk.

It is not entirely helpful, and she wants more answers about the 'hows' and 'whys'. Maybe she should be more careful, but she raises her right hand, a stream of red energy pulsating from it to the kiosk, as if she can try and get more answers out of it. But the information that comes forth seems to contradict itself, and she kicks the side of the counter as if that will help matters any more.]

Tell me why I'm here. [She grunts, half wishing she could just blow it up, but knowing that isn't the wisest course of action in the midst of everything. It's almost a plea, said out of frustration but also a need to know.]

Is the Darkhold here, too? [Then none of this would matter.]

( i scream you scream )
[She can be distracted for some time, trying to get the bearings of her new city. The ice cream is something of a treat, and she's quiet as she looks at the people in the line, at the menu. It still feels almost normal, like there's still things under the surface that Wanda wants to pull, but isn't entirely sure what would come up.

This isn't her first time in another reality, though this one certainly isn't one of her choosing, and it's far less entertaining given the lack of kitschy sitcom material. Disappointing really. Her nose curls as she looks over the ice cream options. Wanda can do better.]

Strawberry. Please. [She orders as she gets to the front of the line. After she receives the small cup of ice cream, Wanda is about three or four bites in before she just lifts her head to look at the person closest to her.]

I had to kill the man I love to save the universe, and it didn't even matter. [And then an awkward laugh like she just told a joke, waiting for the sitcom laughter to follow, but it never does.]

( network; un: scarletwitch )
Well this seems strange. Even for me. Another reality? Great. Not my first time around one.
[She wants to try for a joke, to be personable, but she doesn't actually feel all that happy about it.]

I am looking for my sons, Billy and Tommy. Twins. They shouldn't be here-- I don't think, but if they are, I would like to know. I am trying to get to them.

[And she'll do what she has to to get to them. Whatever that is.]

[ Listen, Peter Quill is a man of simple tastes, and those simple tastes would probably more appropriately suited to a kid whose age still runs in the single digits. So that means when he finds the ice cream shop, no power in the universe will stop him from getting in.

This time around, he's getting one of the other shop's offerings – a cone of birthday cake ice cream. He has a few decades' worth of Earth-style sweets to make up for, and he figures this particular flavor is kind of like killing two overly sweet birds with one scoop.

He's still debating whether or not he wants to eat on the go or settle in when the woman turns to him, and—

Well. For a second, he just blinks in the devastation of that particular truth bomb. It takes a second or two to recover, and once he does, his expression softens a little. The statement hit a little close to home, it seems. ]

I'm, uh. I'm sorry to hear that.

[personal profile] hydric 2023-08-07 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
[The emotional devastation is written on her face, but she just blinks, a hand going over her mouth. She didn't mean for that to just come out like that. It's still a lot, even if she's had to let Vision go for a second time. It was what he wanted. She breathes slowly, looking back at the man, not completely recognizing him immediately.]

I am sorry. I did not mean to confide that. [Because it's not something she exactly wants to unpack right in the middle on the street.]

You can forget I said that. [A feeble attempt at a smile.]

[ For his part, Peter didn't spend enough time at Stark's funeral – which means he doesn't immediately recognize Wanda, either. It doesn't help, either, that he had been preoccupied at the time. He felt bad for the guy's passing, sure, but he had mostly been there for Nebula's and Rocket's benefit. The two of them had been far closer to Earth's Avengers than Peter cared to be, so he had only spent enough time at the service to not be a total dick before cutting out and returning to the Guardians' ship. ]

No, you're fine.

[ A pause, as he recognizes how emotionally charged this conversation has become from the word go, but Peter has always had a morbidly curious streak.

At the very least, his tone is low, gentle, when he asks, ]

Who was it that you lost? I mean, what was his name?
hydric: (s u f f e r)

[personal profile] hydric 2023-08-07 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
[Wanda doesn't mean to go straight into her issues. She knows the outcome, what he wanted, how much she's grieved for him already. It just does not feel like it's over when their children are still out there somewhere. She doesn't relax any when he says she's fine, because in truth she feels anything but.

But the wound is already ripped open, so there isn't any going back now. His question has her stilling, a small smile at the memories that filter through her mind.]

Vision. He was a synthezoid technically. What he was made from, it was thought if something similar was capable of destroying him then it would have stopped everything else. Only it was too late at that point. [Because Thanos already had the Time Stone.]

I killed him the first time, watched it happen the second, saw what they did to him after, and had to let him go again. And here I am now. [She looks up and around at this other reality she finds herself in, not having meant to end up here at all. Her only hope is maybe Billy and Tommy find their way here somehow, too. It is easier to think of that than the grief she's already tried to process.]

Welcome to the Neighbourhood

[personal profile] abit_ofboth 2023-08-08 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
[Though he hasn't managed to get any information out of anything in the time he's been here, Loki often finds himself returning to places to see if he missed anything. In this case, he finds himself returning to the kiosk. Other than the so-called fortune teller (which he has no interest in visiting again, seriously), it seems the most likely to get something out of.

When he reaches the area he's surprised to see a woman using magic to try and make the kiosk work. He watches as her red magic enters the machine and she speaks, clearly frustrated and pulls himself up to sit on the receptionist's desk to continue watching. After a moment, he speaks.]

I would not bother wasting your energy on that. It will not work and you will merely deplete your abilities.
hydric: (pic#16453211)

[personal profile] hydric 2023-08-08 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
[Wanda senses him before she actually sees him, at least what he's capable of. He's not the scepter, but it's not like she's unaware there aren't powerful forces in the city. Her head snaps up, and he says something to her. The kiosk is hardly providing any decent information anyway, and her brow furrows. She's less worried about depleting herself though.]

--Loki. [There's a small lift of her brows, a moment where she's surprised to see him here. He must also be stuck in the same way she is, unable to shift reality in all the ways she's capable of, true creation.]

Then who do you get to give you answers here? [She's a little impatient at the moment, trying to figure out a way to go about getting to where she needs to go or at least to see if her sons are here.]
abit_ofboth: (Default)

[personal profile] abit_ofboth 2023-08-09 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
[When she says his name, he's more than a little surprised, but he manages to keep his face neutral. So far, she is the first to recognize him on the spot. He, however, does not recognize her. All he really knows is that her magic is quite powerful. Or it would be if they weren't here.

He doesn't address that though, at least not right away.]

Unfortunately, I have yet to find anyone or anything that can or will give us answers. At least nothing helpful. [He glances to the side briefly, thinking again of the mechanical fortune teller. He still doesn't quite know what to make of all of that.]
hydric: (v o i d)

[personal profile] hydric 2023-08-10 06:47 am (UTC)(link)
That is the consensus. [It is not the first she’s heard and maybe giving the kiosk an extra kick is just to get out some frustration, but she drops her hands and with it the red energy dissipates around her.]

So then what do you do here?

[She already anticipates herself not handling this all that well. She’s already nearly cracked before, though that was because she was handling everything about Westview.]

[ It's strange, how you can find a message here on the network that is at once completely foreign, and yet completely relatable at the same time. The first part is something so distant from Daniel, a joke that's truly beyond his own experience, but then that second part..

It's that second part that renders him completely unable to ignore the message, feeling a pang in his heart. ]

Do you have a description of your sons?

[ Daniel has seen plenty of kids around town, after all, but he doesn't know all their names. Still - he understands wanting to find your kids as soon as possible. ]

Maybe I've come across them. Or I could help keep an eye out for them.

They are both 10. Young, boys. Tommy is curious, always going. He has longer, dark brown hair. To his shoulders. He probably has gotten into things. Billy looks similar, but he's got shorter, darker hair, usually pushed to the side. He's a little more sensitive, feels things deeper. [Describing them now hurts, but not just because she misses them, but because having to describe them makes her think of her and Pietro at that age, what they had already gone through.]

I would appreciate that. Thank you. I need to be with them.

I don't think I have seen them around. But it's a big city. [ A big, empty city, sure, but still big enough that it's entirely feasible to not have run into someone, even if you've been there for a while already.

Especially young energetic kids, with the way they can be all over the place and disappear in mere moments. ]

I will keep an eye out. But if they aren't here, is there someone else back home to take care of them?

[ Daniel imagines not, if Wanda is so frantic about finding them. But he sure hopes there is, because there's still a fairly large chance they aren't here, when not everyone seems to turn up alongside other people from their home. His own kids aren't here either, after all. ]

I do not know if I am relieved or not to hear that, but thank you.

[It makes things more complicated if they are not here, her sole purpose being to find them again, and here she can't do the things she might be able to find them again.]

No. Their father died. [It is a lot more complicated than that, she knows, but she is not sure how to explain that in her grief she mind controlled an entire town, somehow became pregnant, but had to end the illusion, because she was hurting people she did not mean to, and that she was convinced her children were out in another universe waiting for her.]

[ the man she happens to be standing next to when the effect of the ice cream overtakes her isn't exactly a man, and she'll be able to feel at least something of that in the depth of his presence. the surface of him looks normal enough, for a beautiful being that only looks just this side of normal vs. otherworldly, and he's wearing black everything even down to his boots.

but he turns his head to face her upon being addressed so directly, and listens to her declaration with an opaque expression. he barely reacts to it as one might expect others would, and he certainly does not join her in laughing after. ]

Such is frequently the way in matters of the universe.

[She senses the strangeness coming from him. Wanda has encountered a few things she doesn't have the words for or knowledge of, mostly in fighting Thanos, but she blanches at the fact that she revealed something so deeply personal and traumatic to a total stranger. She usually keeps these things buried, though perhaps it is the fact that she's experienced so much loss and trauma that it comes out so easily.

She doesn't have a clue that it's the ice cream, just spooning it into her mouth to give him a nod.]

I suppose they're all the same then. At least in that way. [But there are versions where her sons are out there, and that's what's kept her going this far.]

On the scale of universes, it is. It is another matter entirely when considering the ... smaller scopes.

[ he hasn't looked away from her since turning his head, the focused attention likely unnerving, but he does tilt his head slightly to the side while he continues to look at her. ]

You still dream of him.

[ it's not a question. ]

The details are always different. [This much she knows, experienced for herself, created herself. He says this all with such confident, and she cannot place how he knows, but she knows that he does. She can trust that. Her eyes take him in, but there's nothing that's truly discernible from him other than what she can read.]

He still existed. For a time. [The way she says it means he no longer does. Her face is a little tighter, the emotions just under the surface for now. She hopes she still dreams of him. And the boys. The world she created for a time and how it was theirs.]

welcome

[personal profile] justlethal 2023-08-09 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
[There's a side-long glance given in the direction of the red haired woman. If she is bothered by her actions, it is hard to tell. Rather, Gamora regards her for a long moment, as if trying to decipher her. It isn't an actual skill that Gamora has though, and she puts the map that had been in her right hand into her back pocket.]

You will find that answers are lacking in this place.

[Frighteningly so. There is no manual on who is behind this, let alone why or how. Some half-assed explanations that are so lacking it is almost comical. Gamora isn't a comical person though. She's spent much of her time trying to figure out a weakness or an answer, some way home, even if she doesn't know if anything actually waits for her there. A second of life before pain and imminent death?]

You're new.

[More a statement than a question.]

[If she could get more violent with it, she would. She wants to do more than kick it, frustration seeping out of her at the lack of any sort of concrete answers. She know she didn't do this though, but there's not much else about this place, who did it, how it happened, and how to get out of it. She can't even manipulate reality to the way she's used to.

Wanda straightens when the other woman says something to her, blowing back a stray strand of red hair. She doesn't look any more pleased about this, but doing something in futility is more exhausting than just taking her anger out on the kiosk.]

So there is nothing? Nothing that tells us what this place is or does, why we are here, how to leave? [Or at least return what is hers so she can leave.]

I am, yes. [Just going to pause to check out the green woman.]

[Gamora will admit that sometimes a punch or a kick are good for stress relief. A fight, blowing off some steam, without seeking to truly maim or injure another. To not just be a weapon.]

If anyone has found it, they have not shared.

[Arguably, it may well depend who does find the information and what they would do with it. Some might hold onto it, keeping it close. Use it for leverage. Gamora would share.]

It does not stop those from seeking. Until that point where something useful is found, you are stuck here. Like the rest of us.

And breaking this thing is not an option? [Her hand is already raised, the red energy she uses making it glow. It might blow off a whole lot of steam at this point.

It doesn’t help that Wanda already came into this place a little more hot than she might usually be.]

ice scream

[personal profile] gravekeeps 2023-08-09 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
[ Since she'd been taken to London, Gray had truly began to understand the deliciousness of desserts. Afternoon teas with Reines had become some of her favorite parts of the day... And ice cream, which had once been an unknown, had become favored on hotter days. Especially if they were paired with pastries. Finding an ice cream shop had been a surprise and Gray had... ]

[ Honestly, stood in the corner for a while indecisive - from both the flavours and it if it was really okay to just go behind the counter and get it herself. Like she's seen a lot of people do by now, because it doesn't seem money matters here. ]

[ She'd finally worked up ther courage to approach when the woman gets her own. Draped in dark clothing, face primarily covered, she looks so much like a shadow most people ignore her. This woman doesn't, however, and she straightens with some confusion... Stops and for a moment, green eyes beneath the hood lower as it settles. ]

...

Do you... do you need a hug?

[Wanda just sort of stares at the younger woman, not knowing why she just dumped a whole lot of trauma on her. Her mouth closes, and she shakes her head suddenly. Able to reign it in, the redhead takes a breath in before looking at her.]

No. It is kind that you offered. I do not know why I just said that. It is-- something that has been dealt with.

[Perhaps not the most emotionally stable, but she is at least functioning now. That is not the sole point of her focus now.]

You don't have to apologize...! I've heard stranges cases before...

[ She's not sure if that's what she means. Gray thinks it's perfectly all right to be upset about something like that and for whatever it's worth she doesn't feel unloaded on at all. Only bad that she can't help more. ]

But I hope when it got dealt with... your heart was put a little at ease.

It is… better than it was. [She is no longer holding an entire town hostage. Is her heart at ease? No. But then she is also used to grief as well. Now her focus is on her two boys though, throwing herself into that for what she tells herself is for their sake. They are younger than the girl in front of her and deserve their mother. They were innocents, too.]
