[ midnight ascends. kaveh observes. the light touch of hands upon the light fixture draws kaveh's attention to the simple base holding up the chandelier itself. it's nothing that hadn't been done before, that kaveh himself hasn't installed before, but the simplicity of the two screws along the base speaks to the quality of the screws and the amount of downward force the ceiling's composite materials is able to resist.

in sumeran architecture, they'd put in a cross-beam just above the location where the largest of the chandeliers are to be hung along its embedded hook, but that doesn't seem to be the case here - just gauging along the line of the ceiling and the position of the load-bearing walls means that this would be a very odd place for a cross-beam. it's a mystery that can be easily unveiled once they get that chandelier down, and kaveh can go up and take a look at the cross-section. the thought is a bit exciting.

Mild vandalism, yes, but you have to admit that there's nobody here that will be adversely affected by you gaining a chandelier. Though if all of the original inhabitants of this place suddenly returned from wherever they went, I'll be the first to come back to this store and offer reparations for the missing chandelier; I'm complicit, after all.

[ but first - tools. for the fiftieth time, kaveh regrets the absence of mehrak as his hand automatically twitches to summon it, before remembering that his hands now hold nothing more than what he currently has. it has him follow midnight with a sliver of a smile that brightens as they go along. ]

Architect. I'm surprised you made the connection; most people wouldn't. And you are an... Operator? [ in the delicate, ginger tones of someone who was definitely in that conversation where one third of the participants was naked and drunk and possibly spent most of that time on the floor. ] Apologies, I read a few of the other exchanges on that board. You work in the same organisation as that other 'Operator', right? Mister Broca?
