network preamble
[Having come into some fascinating information, Junpei—

obsessively studies it for a solid day

—and then un: junpei posts something very short and simple to the network for once:]

hey, it's junpei. i'm in the 5th floor conference room in the district 2 building by the bowling alley if anybody wants to know some *big names* and read some pages that aren't half blacked out. you know, for fun.

i've got some chips too. come check it out if you want.
log part
[The conference room is all decked out for some frantic information sharing, or rather:

Junpei has hastily set out some snacks, that is: some bags of chips and a few soda bottles, mostly what he could grab as quickly as possible from the nearest convenience store. He's also tossed some pens and notepads kind of randomly onto the table.

On the wheely whiteboard he's pushed up to the end of the room, the head of the conference table, he's written in big ol' letters:

INFO CLUB MEETING
TAKE A DOCUMENT SHARE A DOCUMENT
IDEAS???

DON'T SPREAD IT AROUND TOO MUCH YET, WE MIGHT GET PHANTOM ARRESTED OR WHATEVER

The most orderly thing here is the stack of ✨✨Documents✨✨ up by the whiteboard. These, he has put in the effort to not make a frantic mess of. Welcome to the club.]

OOC: this is a mingle for the ✨plot clue✨ junpei has received and it is open to anyone who might be interested in the information! if you have cr with junpei or have talked to him even once about The Mysteries, you're welcome to handwave that he sent your character a personal cryptic text about something important, come see. otherwise, seeing his network message and showing up is just fine too.

( Sounds like a normal day in the City? It still snows in Calw, a historically Cold Region, so okay, maybe this is the one thing home has going for it. No climate change crisis. Or maybe they're past that stage. Who knows. Who cares!!

She'll take the marker though, fine.... she will play with him... Her goon enrichment. It's also just kind of funny to see her distinctly neat IMPACT handwriting next to his conspiracy theories.

It's also... longer than just her question, as she considers it more. Probably also in )

What does the "climate change crisis" have to do with the following occurrences experienced thus far?
June: District 1. Welcome party, seemingly put on by no one but the City itself; nothing else to note aside from an extremely lifeless city, confusion, and little in the way of answers.
July: District 2. Bowling alley opens, largely normal and uninspiring, a very dull game, shadows behind the pins.
Bank opens, citizens find lost junk that means a lot to them in the deposit boxes; memory flashes experienced, compulsion to share story behind item.
August: District 2. Ice cream parlor opens, some flavors with extraordinary effects on those who ingest it.
Mall opens, citizens who enter are trapped inside and subsequently chased by visions of people they know or knew; kill or be killed, with extremely vivid "memories" of it regardless of if either happened, and the figments turning into mannequins eventually.
September: District 3. Swimming pool opens, the pools do different things—one changes your age, the other has a tentacle monster in the deep end; make sure to shower after relaxing in the sauna.
Fairgrounds open for the second half of the month, rides and etc. operational despite the lack of personnel; nothing particularly terrifying aside from shadows and seeing people who aren't there.
October: District 3. Gardens open, tea party with flavors that have extraordinary effects on those who imbibe it, though worse than the ice cream; additionally, the greenhouse contains both carnivorous and dirty secret-spilling plants.
University opens, with "office hours" open for a professor in room 312; documents inside were related to social experiments et al. Additionally, a Halloween party was held at the end of the month at the university, with various effects on each level and certain items at the end.
November: District 4. Museum opens, art installation featured; included are various exhibits, gossiping flowers.
Media store opens—the keys citizens received at the end of Halloween work on the dormitory rooms; within each were books that put those who opened it through some story or another, and at the end, citizens found themselves in the media store.
December: District 4. The art exhibition room is open! Go visit it yourself to find out what happens :)

( .....................................

she's stepping back. okay. )

Is that an accurate summary, Junpei?

You'd have to be the expert on the whole climate problems, pal.

( That ain't her rodeo!! ...hmmm. )

But they are pretty good for social experiments. Maybe I was right and they're running us through 'em to make us all buddy-buddy, or at least caring about each other, and then they'll throw a real problem at us that's more important than killing one another out of boredom.

( tapping the marker against her chin... staring at the whiteboard... )

I mean, their major was in social sciences—sociology. Then they went to graduate school for community studies—that's a natural step up, or rather, narrowing down of topics from a broad subject like socials... Philosophy's an interesting choice for community stability, but they must've been focused on the relationship-side of things, hearkening back their original major. ( ...Kromer leans back on her heels. ) Previous iterations had a higher chance of success if they worked together... but if they were still individuals within a collective... which means that sharing ideas and communication is imperative, but these experiments have only done a so-so job of bringing us together and more of...

( ... ..... ....... )

Who knows. ( No, she's got ideas, but she's handing the marker back to Junpei. This is his rodeo! ) Anyway, there's nothing wrong with CompLit 101, if it's anything like the literature classes I took in school.

( his additional notes get a small snort from her. buddy-buddy... no, but she's working with people she normally never would, so maybe that counts for something. )

It only takes one wolf in sheep's clothing to kill a whole flock, you know. ( a surprisingly agricultural reference from someone hailing from a place called The City.... except calw was sort of a little village suburb outside of the big city. they had orchards and some fields. ) If I were them, I would've given us a solid foe from the get-go--humans love having something with a face to push against! That's the way to really get a group working together.

( not... parties. experiments dropped in piecemeal. punishments if you step out of line, damage mysteriously repaired, an endless supply of food. it doesn't matter how long the restock times become as long as they always have new stores in the city unlocking.

in a real crisis situation, there's a finite amount of supplies in an area. she's created it before, she knows! )

You're probably right, yeah. It's like, "Big whoop! What's that even change?"

( Those people... are probably also right. What does knowing this change, aside from giving them some context? Some people to chase after? ...Well, Kromer is happy having information—she 's hated not having any answers—but some people have probably grown apathetic, resigning to just figuring out shit to do here until they go home.

By choice or otherwise. )

Still isn't real clear what they want us to do though, is it? ( Make nice and work together... Deal with stimuli, but... ) Though I've gotta say, I'm not interested in being a guinea pig for much longer. How far's this "Phoenix" Distri... well, "city"?

( some jobs are that good wdym dude )

...Alright then. Let's think about this from a viewpoint that isn't "we just keep walking into it or throwing things into it and hoping it'll work" then! ( science time. should be good enrichment for him too. ) What causes fog normally?
