Not to mention Kaneki had been relatively intense by his standards when they talked about the nature of the ghouls, whether they were monsters or not.
The realisation dawns on Daniel's face in real time too, something about his expression growing a little sad, a little worried.
It's not worried about himself though. Daniel isn't worried about being in the presence of a ghoul (or half-ghoul, or whatever exactly Kaneki is) as much as he's worried about Kaneki himself. About his well being. ]
