She can't bring herself to look at whatever is chasing them; the unknown of it is bad enough, and she thinks looking would only make it worse. So instead she keeps her eyes focused on him, the spear, and the confidence with which he holds and wields it. Nill doesn't think she's ever done anything that confidently in her entire life, and it's both admirable and terrifying in the moment.
When the spear connects with the creature, she finally turns away, her stomach turning over and her body shaking. She tries to take deep breaths, but can just manage a few gasping breaths before he yells for her to make for the stairs.
Precious seconds pass while Nill remembers how to work her legs, and then she's off like a shot, running as fast as she can down the hallway. There are stairs down here, somewhere, and she'll either find them or die trying--there doesn't really seem to be any other option right now. Who knows what else is lurking in the eerie darkness?
