[ Through the man with only one and yet many names, Vanessa hears the question she had asked a dear friend not so long ago. She had feared that the worst of her past would appear and finally destroy all she loved. That memories locked away in white rooms would be realized in their ugliest form.

Our past is who we are. [ Is this an unkind thing to say to someone with total amnesia? She would be loathe to lie; nor would she dismiss Sembene's words of wisdom. Even he knew they hurt her, and she loves him for it. ] It will never leave you.

[ Perhaps it could be seen as encouragement instead, but for Vanessa it is always a warning. ]

But it need not control you. Whether or not you remember old sins or virtues, how you act going forward is the burden of choice that most matters. That, and the name that bears your conduct.
