[ Kaveh is a man of big ideas. Chesed, having identified that the bar for coffee grinders is underground, would have settled for a coffee mill limited to the two options of coarse and fine. But Kaveh has opened up his mind, shown him that one can demand and expect more from the City!

Or rather, perhaps it will be the resourcefulness of the City's residents that will rescue the good name of coffee.

Chesed arches a brow, impressed by every single word that's coming out of Kaveh's mouth. ]

My, I hadn't even thought to try and adjust a grinder to fine tune its options. Then again, I've never been particularly good with tinkering~

[ There's a bright smile on his face at the sound of Kaveh's generosity; this is, wholeheartedly, the best piece of news he's heard from anyone since his arrival. ]

Goodness, Kaveh, you are simply too kind.

Kind? Oh, no. Spiteful. [ kaveh grins, by the means of a conspiratorial whisper: ] I can't stand the way this city has limited us to, and what it forces us to do. It follows that tailoring and adjusting what they have given us is a way of defiance. Or maybe I just want to make sure that there's at least one other person here who understands good coffee.

[ it's not as if, kaveh thinks, that alhaitham doesn't enjoy a good brew, it's just that he's far less picky than kaveh is and has a tendency to have the most baffling opinions about bloom ratios known to mankind. a better conversation partner about the topic is a rare thing indeed. ]

Now, where can I find you once I've tweaked a grinder to our satisfaction?

[ "Spiteful," says Kaveh, which makes this gift all the more better.

So this is what the City does to those who've been mired in it for several months longer than him. Perhaps, in time, he will grow spiteful towards it too.

Chesed's smile never falters, even at Kaveh's following question. "Where can I find you once I've tweaked a grinder to our satisfaction?" he asks. Fortunately, that answer is very simple. ]

Are you familiar with the cemetery of the City's Park? You can likely find me there, as it's where I've been enjoying most of my days. Ah, but I suppose if you stopped by there, I wouldn't be able to offer you a brewed drink to express my thanks. There's not a stove or a kettle to be found out there, unfortunately.

[ He's busy touching grass. The local cemetery is a perfectly reasonable place to live, even if there's not a single kitchen in the area. ]

[ um. ]

Um. [ kaveh first says, because he's extremely eloquent, and because what just came from chesed's mouth needed more than a few seconds to process. the cemetery. kaveh ought not judge, he thinks. but he's known a vampire, and not even the vampire lives there, so perhaps he's judging just a little. ] Why the cemetery? You're, ah.

[ kaveh looks, just in case. ] Are you of a species that thrives best in the cemetery?

[ Chesed looks back at Kaveh and arches a brow, as though Kaveh is the one who's said something rather unusual. ]

Oh, no. I'm a completely ordinary human.

[ "Ordinary" doing quite a bit of heavy lifting, of course. ]

You see, it's rather nice out there. Plenty of fresh grass with a serene atmosphere, an excellent spot for getting some shut-eye. Oh, and it's quiet too, which is nice. I've spent so much time indoors, so I haven't quite gotten over the novel experiences of being outside again.

[ As said. Perfectly reasonable place to live, Kaveh. ]

[ kaveh looks. ordinary, kaveh thinks, has a very different definition here than perhaps anywhere else in the world. or at least in kaveh's world. this is, ostensibly, a very odd thing, considering he knows alhaitham.

still, kaveh hazards, so long as the man is happy, and he isn't causing harm to himself or anyone else. he wonders if hu tao knows about the man. she likes cemeteries too, though perhaps for different reasons.

rather, here is the more important question: ]

Well, where do you go to brew coffee, then?

[ Kaveh's question bears similarities with Yesod's question from the eve he'd approached in the cemetery. Where was Chesed showering? Where as Chesed brushing his teeth? Perhaps Yesod would never know.

It seems Kaveh, on the other hand, will receive a true answer from Chesed. ]

At the moment, I am limited to pourover, as it requires the simplest equipment. I've co-opted a corner at the Bookstore for my experiments, you see, though it occurs to me that I've no space for receiving guests to share coffee.

[ He wears a pensive expression and rubs his chin with a hand. ]

Though... I suppose I'll need a real kitchen to share coffee with a friend more frequently. Hmhm, how convenient that I may be moving to live under a roof with a group of my former colleagues~

[ the bookstore. a shared roof. kaveh thinks - oh no. there's a revelation happening, and something in kaveh tells him that it's all rather belated. netzach had mentioned that his colleagues from his city had been working at the bookstore. netzach had mentioned that he wanted to move into a larger apartment with his colleagues. midnight had mentioned that one of his hosts wanted a coffee station. kaveh had put his hands to work - a printing press, a shared home, a coffee station.

now, kaveh looks. how had he not wondered? for whom had he been building? ]

A roof that contained a coffee bar. [ kaveh says, and he is smiling. ] And perhaps we can also meet at the host club where there is another coffee bar set. And now that we've met, I've suddenly realised - would it not be grand to have another coffee bar at the bookstore? What could pair better on a winter's day than a good book and a good cup of coffee?
