[He dimly feels her pulling from his solid grip. A yank. Another yank.]

[He sees the tears, and finally, one by one, finger by finger, he lets her go.]


I'm a Color. I'm the last person who could judge someone for wanting to go outside your role.

[He sucks in a breath as he pulls his hand back to his side, glancing away. His chest aches. The memory of a demolished orphanage, a snake-like woman, a monstrous heap of maligned flesh and body parts. It's an image that has echoed in his mind every single day.]

...You're honest. Whenever I hear a Corporation crow about its gifts to humanity, it makes me sick. At least you have the decency to not want to pretend otherwise.

[A beat.]

We're all selfish. So no. I don't hate you for that.
