[ Kai still hasn't bothered to find himself somewhere to stay, chosing instead to wander the city aimlessly and just curl up wherever when he feels the urge to sleep. Maybe you've spotted the bundle of black fur curled into random corners or stretched out on ledges. Not like he has to worry about predators.

The only place he absolutely will not go near is the laundromat, and even finding himself in the area will earn some narrowed eyes. If you happen to come across him glaring down his building nemesis, be prepared for the glare to be turned on you instead, as Kai does his best impression of having his hackles raised despite the fact that human shoulders don't really work that way. ]

I am not getting in one of those things.

[ No one suggested it....

[ The idea of disliking a regular laundromat seems absurd to Broca. Sure they might not be the most exciting places in the world, but they serve a purpose, and sometimes that's enough.

The idea of disliking this particular laundromat, however? That makes a lot of sense to him, and when Kai makes that comment as he's passing by, Broca turns to look at the building, his own ears flattening back as his eyes narrow. ]

It's not worth the risk.

[ His shirt and pants were almost devoured forever by a wayward dryer, and someone he knew suffered more permanent clothing based casualties.

That might not be what the catman here is talking about, but that's what Broca's immediately assuming he means. ]

[ The agreement already has him turning in appreciation, but once he recognizes that the sentiment is coming from Broca, his eyes narrow into something that looks like genuine irritation. It takes a lot for Kai to work up to a visible level of emotion, but this might almost be getting him there. ]

Did someone try to put you in a dryer too?

[ He wouldn't put it past them, frankly. Sure everyone's trying to find answers, but. It's a cruel thing to do to anyone, and Kai can't help feeling a degree of camaraderie with a fellow cat that makes him angrier on Broca's behalf. ]

[ The shared camaraderie might be appreciated if the question didn't take Broca aback quite as much as it did. A man Broca's size wouldn't even fit in one of those dryers, much less be easy to shove around enough to get him in one. His lack of portability that comes from not having his own small cat form is balanced out by the fact that people absolutely cannot just do that to him.

But his nose wrinkles in disgust as he realizes that someone tried to do that to Kai. ]

Someone did what?

[ So the short answer is no, no one tried to put him in one, but he does appreciate the aversion to laundromats on a new, previously unconsidered level. ]

[ For all his own irritation with the situation, the intensity of Broca's reaction startles him a little. He...may not exactly be used to anyone else being concerned about him. Why would they?

So he just blinks once and then cocks his head. ]

So we could figure out how the warping works.

[ Clearly it didn't actually happen, so there's that at least. Honestly part of Kai still isn't sure if Seimei actually meant it or just thought it was a funny threat. Really it can go either way, with him. ]

Why don't you like it, then?

[ No, they likely wouldn't be having this conversation right now if someone had actually shoved him into a dryer and let it run. Though maybe the plan was just to close him in and sit with it off to see what happened. Still pretty appalling considering the warping could have easily happened in a way that sent a living, sentient creature into a different dryer that was on.

There's an agitated, rumbling sound from Broca as he looks at the laundromat with new disdain, though it's less about the place itself, and more about the kind of thoughtless idiots that apparently want to use it. ]

It stole a shirt.

[ That's it. That's the reason. Nothing potentially near death about it, and here Broca was thinking his petty reason was more than enough. ]

[ Another slow blink, but Kai gives a solemn nod after a moment of consideration. They have little enough of their own things here as it is, losing anything would be difficult. Probably. The idea of owning things is also a little new to him, but Kai can get the general gist. ]

Did you get it back?

[ Probably not or he wouldn't still be to angry, right? Or is it the principle of the thing?

Maybe he should be a little more open to testing how all this works. But he still doesn't want to go in a dryer. Getting stuck in the vault had been bad enough, and that was a lot larger. ]

[ And the ears flatten again, the tip of his tail twitching slightly at the question. ]

No.

[ He's wearing a shirt right now though, so that's a good sign, isn't it? Of course he had to go just take that from a store. Good thing money seems to be meaningless here, and no one is around to stop shop lifting. ]

[ A shirt sure, but it's not his shirt (probably), and that's a kind of possessiveness Kai can understand. Or he's projecting. One of the two. Some instincts you don't lose even if you have nothing to protect anymore.

But he gives Broca a commiserating look which has the added benefit of making sure he's not looking at the stupid laundry machines anymore. ]

I still don't want to find out how it works. Sorry.

[ Because it would definitely be helpful and Kai knows it, but no. ]

Just another weird thing here.

[ It was a nice shirt. Not nice enough for Broca to be this agitated about if he was in a normal situation where he could replace it without having to do what basically amounted to shop-lifting from one of the employeeless stores admittedly, but relatively nice still.

He at least lets his ears relax back up into their normal position at Kai's comments. ]

No one should go inside those things, or try to put anyone in them.

[ Which is a roundabout way of saying he's fine with not learning how they work either if they're taking stupid risks to try and figure it out. ]

[ Well at least someone agrees. Kai gives a little huff, but he's already losing interest in it now that Broca seems similarly indifferent. ]

Did you need something?

[ Broca has at least seemed extremely focused, from Kai's handful of other experiences with him. Maybe he's found himself something to focus on.

Is Kai himself looking for something to do? Possibly. Even cats can only nap so often during the day. Something that will take them somewhere not here, preferably. ]

[ Focus is a nice thing to have, and Broca wishes he could claim that he had something to focus his attention on right now. Sadly so much of what he'd been doing lately had stagnated, and he was left aimless for the time being.

It's probably why he looks so put off as he gives a single shake of his head. ]

No. I was just curious.

[ Since Kai seemed to have his own big feelings about the laundromat there. ]

[ Okay fair, someone just standing around and glaring ineffectually at a building is probably a little weird. Another one of those things that no one questions of a cat but a human can't really pull off the same way. Good to know for next time.

He sighs a little, shoulders drooping. At least he's made his stance clear to someone, and that feels a little better. ]

Okay. I'm going to go somewhere not here. You want to come?

[ He has no real plan aside from putting some distance between himself and the terrible machines, but it's something? ]
