It all reeks of ulterior motives. At any other point in his life, he probably would have just started walking along the tracks, whether he had a destination in mind or not; to hell with staying in an obvious trap and chatting up his fellow victims.
But where does he have to go now, anyway? He's given all that he could, fought to his very last breath, just as a shinobi should.
